The famous moniker and revolutionary war cry of the Brotherhood of Nod finds itself shouted through riots at governments worldwide; accusations of neglect and greed thrown by a distasteful world population at those who rule them. Riots and violent uprisings alike become increasingly common through the civilized world as the Brotherhood fully exploits the societal chaos to increase its already mind boggling numbers of fighters & followers worldwide. Having secured footholds in most corners of the globe, particularly in Africa and Eastern Europe, the Brotherhood enjoys the prime of its power, with toppled governments and national armies standing no match for the sheer overwhelming force of the Brotherhood's armada, with field reports detailing the uses of unknown technology never before seen in the armament of any known standing armed forces or terrorist groups.
Having mostly been locked in a defensive effort in order to quell angry uprisings fueled by the Brotherhood, a demoralized, yet still standing Global Defense Initiative finds itself reinvigorated by a recently passed United Nations bill - allowing participating nations to quintuple the military resources diverted to the alliance, including the creation of a UN Secretary of Defense post, recently filled by Dr. Charles Olivetti, a stern anti-NOD politician who has been subjected to multiple failed assassination attempts by the Brotherhood's infamous 'Faith Squads'. GDI also finds its newly funded and equipped army under new military leadership - with Brigadier General Mark Jamison Sheppard - an acclaimed & skilled US Army General who has led various successful offensive operations against the Brotherhood in North America appointed as GDI's supreme commander with an overwhelming 281-7 vote. With this, Dr. Olivetti orders General Sheppard to begin offensive operations against the Brotherhood in Eastern Europe.
With their will re-energized and their guns locked & loaded, GDI sets its vision for its first major offensive of the First Tiberium War in Latvia - with the remnants of the formal government who failed to evacuate forming an underground loyalist resistance force to oppose the ruling NOD puppet state. GDI opts to challenge NOD's foothold in Europe by directly attacking its Latvian base of operations through an airborne assault from the Russian Federation - with troops from GDI's 76th Mechanized Infantry Division using combined arms and shock-and-awe tactics in order to pressurize Brotherhood forces in the region and force a full NOD retreat from the country.
Having foreseen the threat, NOD's engimatic and near prophet-like leader figure, Kane, orders NOD's 1st Armored Division - one of NOD's premier military units - to maintain the Brotherhood's grip on Latvia through any means necessary. And with this, the titans face off in their first major clash in the conflict - with the whole world setting their eyes in Europe in order to see if GDI will phase the iron grip of the Brotherhood on Latvia - or if the Brotherhood truly is unstoppable...
